A Sale I Couldn't Resist!

There it was in the the classified section...

"GARAGE SALE-
100+ teacups, other china"

I hadn't even planned to go out Saturday, but I changed my mind in a big hurry!

I can say that it was NOT an exaggeration!

In talking to the lady having the sale, she told me this was only about 1/5 of her collection that she was selling.  She still had over 400 cups that she was keeping!  She also told me that a friend of hers has over 800 cups!  I can't even imagine having that many... I think my husband would be calling "Hoarders"  if I did that!  However, I could have gotten in serious trouble if I'd had more money with me!

So here are the ones I bought.

This one is by Royal Vale.

This one is made by Colclough.  It's hard to tell in the picture, but the background is a very pale pink.

This one is marked EB.  The lady told me the name of the maker, but I forgot what it was.

Love the yellow inside of the cup!

Plus, I found this cute little teapot!

So, it looks like my new cup shelf will be filling up fast!

A project that took much longer than it should have...

The past couple of years, I haven't acquired too many teacups.  I was running out of space to put them.  My china cabinet is full, and if I put them on tables, they stood a high chance of ending up broken due to clumsy family members and a couple of fat kitties!

I found this shelf at the thrift store for a whopping $7.99!  As soon as I spotted it, I was thinking "please don't let anyone grab it before I get over there!"

Unfortunately I forgot to take a before picture.  It was an ugly brown.  It took me a few weeks to finish it, as our weather was not cooperating for painting!

I added some pink porcelain roses to pretty it up.

Now comes the fun part...filling the shelf up!

A good start

Another July 4th is over, and the neighbors didn't burn our house down.  Every year, it's like a war zone around here.  I swear, I think I live in a neighborhood of budding pyromaniacs...

A couple of months back, I posted about wanting to redo my family room and its motley gathering of furniture.  (You can read it here- room re-do goals)

This is our current sofa...tacky at its best- or should that be worst?  Complete with cat damage.  Couldn't she at least look a little guilty?

Lovely, isn't it?

Well, I'm happy to announce that it will soon be on its way to the dump!

This is the new sofa.  Style-wise, it's not exactly what I would have picked if I'd had an unlimited budget, but I can live with it.  Especially since we hit a really good sale... it should be shipped in the next 2-4 weeks.

One project down, about a dozen to go...

Mom

Norma Jean McCurdy

Today, July 2, would have been my mom's 81st birthday. Ten days from now, the 12th, it will be exactly 5 years since she died.

My mom was beautiful, sweet, loving, strong, dependable, loyal... I could go on pretty much forever.

She was one of my best friends.

Happy Birthday, Mom.  I miss you and Dad so much.

"I close my eyes
and I see your face
if home's where my heart is
then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength
to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now."
