I'm back. Looks like we finally tackled the computer issue. Originally, we thought it was a virus causing the trouble, but my husband (also our resident computer geek) ran three different antivirus software programs, and all came out clean. We finally figured out that my email had been hacked. I had that account for over 15 years, with no trouble. Wish I could say that about trying to delete it....
I went online to cancel. It told me that my account couldn't be closed online, please call.
Ok...voice mail menu... "for cancellations, say 'cancellations.' " Ok. Cancellations.
After confirming my account..."Please go to our website to cancel your account." WHAT? I already did that and it won't let me! And they had the nerve to disconnect me as well!
Another call. Finally, I'm talking to a real person, probably outsourced in another country. Oh, well...
"Why do you want to cancel?" My account was hacked.
"Did you run an antivirus program?" Of course I did...several times...(heavy sarcasm here)
"Are you sure that you want to cancel? You'll lose all of our special features...etc...etc..."
Just CANCEL my account!!!!!!!
"Are you SURE that you want to cancel your account? You can change your mind within 30 days... Yadda yadda yadda..."
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, LADY, JUST CANCEL THE STUPID ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!!
(No, I really didn't say that...but I wanted to!)
A few more rounds of this, and finally she cancels the account.
I'll refrain from commenting on what I think of foreign call centers and computer hackers.
